Today after Mass our family decided to go out for brunch. Something we rarely due unless for a special occasion or if our fridge is in need of a desperate trip to the grocery store, which happened to be the case today.
Nothing was out of the ordinary. The ma and pa diner was packed as it usually is on a Sunday morning. A restaurant we have been to many times, but this time was different. We were seated at a small table in the back, just the perfect fit for our family of five. We ordered our food, ate, laughed and conversed among ourselves.
As the waitress began to clear our plates she said, your check is taken care of. Confused, what does she mean taken care of? She repeated again, your check is taken care of, the table behind you wanted to pay for your meal. In complete shock, I began to look around to see if I could quickly find them and thank them. She said, they are already gone, they didn’t want you to know who it was. My eyes filled with tears. My heart incredibly touched.
Why us? I will never know. We hadn’t talked to them or even exchanged smiles. Complete strangers.
An ordinary Sunday met with extraordinary love. Someone I will never meet blessing our family with their kindness. Yet a day I will always remember as a stranger showed us genuine love.
We may not know their names, but we are united now in prayer as it’s the only way I know how to repay them. I can only hope that in some way I can mirror their gift of love and kindness by blessing a stranger.

What a blessing, and yes, from strangers! So uplifting to hear this type of story in our selfish world. May God bless them for their kindness.

I thought the same thing, especially when it’s easy to only see the negative around us.

I have no doubt your family touched their lives in some way, Cassie. The way you are together…your words, your parenting, your choice to adopt, the love, the humor, etc. Your family may have shared something they needed that day. Only God knows. What a beautiful gift even if it was simply, “Let’s do this for them,” and I am wrong. Thanks for sharing the story. I do believe you and Aaron are going to see many blessings for your faithfulness all these years in the beginning of your marriage.
