Making my debut with 7 Quick Takes!
1. I have been reading Jen’s blog for years and always make sure to stop over on Friday’s to read all the great takes, so I am thrilled to finally jot down my own 7! I have never had the privilege of meeting Jen in real life, but she is a fabulous guest on the radio show I produce and I feel like a star having my voice heard in Minor Revisions.
2. It turns out we are hosting my husband’s family for Easter this year. I am a little nervous and slightly overwhelmed, you see he is the youngest of 11 and there are about 25 nieces and nephews, but who’s counting. We have only had about half of the family in our house at one time, so figuring out the logistics to this may be tricky. Looking for suggestions and tips in meeting the needs of that many people at one time in one place…
3. Feeling down and discouraged, having one of those moments when you wonder if God is really hearing your prayers. In that moment of crying out to God, He reassures you right then and there in that exact moment, that He’s got this, He’s in control. Continue to push on, persevere and keep the faith! In that moment your tears instantly switch from those of sorrow to those of joy, tears of gratefulness and praise, because once again you’re reminded He’s got this, He’s got you!
“Faith is like a dark tunnel: God gives us the Light to take one step at a time. The Light is not given to see the end of the tunnel.” – Fr. Walter Ciszek
4. I am not complaining about the weather, but I was looking forward to spending some time with my family this weekend. Good ole Mother Nature changed my plans with an April blizzard leaving 12 inches of snow in its path!
5. You know you have a haircut gone bad when the only compliment you hear on it is from your husband, who is just trying to get you to leave the house. Of course there was the one person at work who notices and the conversation goes like this:
A: Oh you got your haircut?
Me: Yeah, not sure if I like it though.
A: Well, it’s short.
I guess it keeps you humble.
6. What Did the Fox Say? Well, just the other morning we saw Mr. Fox frolicking in our back yard in the field behind our house. Keep in mind we live in suburbia not in the country, this isn’t supposed to happen. I was sort of freaked out by a fox that close to our house, of course my husband thinks it would be great to have around to help control the mice population. I can just see myself sitting out on the deck reading a book this summer and all of a sudden being terrified by the sight of it, forcing me to live the rest of those sunny days as a hermit locked up in my house! (The picture is a bit blurry, our camera wasn’t charged so we opted to use the tablet which does a nice job of pixilating.)
7. I was writing up my About page and reading a sentence to my husband to get his input, “I like good coffee, good wine and good friends.” His response with no hesitation, it sounds like you have a drinking problem. Needless to say I scratched that line.

I usually get one haircut a year because I can’t handle the trauma more than that 😉

Welcome to the Blogsphere! I clicked over from Jen and her 7 Quick Takes. I have enjoyed reading your posts and your journey. I have no real help to offer for your big Easter meal. Anytime we invite our families over we always set up the food buffet style and usually we do some sort of pot luck so one person doesn’t have to do all the cooking. If someone offers to bring something, I’d say take them up on it! No fabulous advice beyond that, I’ve got nothing. You’ll have to do a post after Easter about how it turned out. Enjoy blogging!

Welcome to the 7QT family! Good luck with the large gathering. I try to spread people out all over the place. I have lots of places where two or three people can sit and visit, or eat, instead of a huge table that takes up ton of space. It seems to encourage people to move around and get to talk to more people.

Buffet. I have never had that many people but I usually host for New Year’s more people than the house can actually fit and this works out well. People mingle and move, kids aren’t restricted.

Hi! I’m Kate here from Conversion Diary. I LOVE reading inaugural takes. I scour the link up for them!
I have no wisdom regarding your massive Easter dinner, but I do feel significantly less stressed about hosting my two brothers and…well just them…
I kind of love fox sightings. They aren’t aggressive are they? I think you could probably sneeze and he’d run away. Whenever you see him you should just ask yourself: “What DID the fox say?” and maybe the more children’s lit associations you can build the less you’ll be afraid. 😉

Everyday Ann, I love your blog. A couple of random comments on each of your comments. God’s time is not our time. His time is perfect, ours it not. I always says I pray for patience and I want it right now. LOL The time will come and it will be perfect.
Knowing large families, and I am sure that your honey’s family is no different, they will all help by bringing food to the family meal. Have a menu on a piece of paper and as you talk to family members talk to them about what they can bring. They, I am sure, will offer. Also, as far as fitting that amount of people in a certain amount of space…again in large families…they are use to making due with what they have. It is common for them to enjoy each other and sit where ever visiting. Have a lot of chairs and have one designated area (your kitchen table) for the food with area around it so a line can be formed around it. God is so good that you are married into a big family. I know you feel the same. I have to admit I feel the same when I host celebrations but it always turns out wonderful. There is always many hands helping and wonderful memories and happy times doing it.
I know I am bouncing around but about the fox. Remember, they don’t want anything to do with people. I am sure if you walked toward him he would be out of there faster than it took you to take one step. You never know Mr. Fox probably got lost for just a little while and will find his way back home.
I realize that I didn’t put my whole name in my comment but I am new to even going on a blog or commenting on one, as you can see because I seem to be rambling on, and I am not sure if you are suppose to. I like to comment though that if we had our date night with our honey’s (hint hint) that I would know the things in your blog already because we would have talked (hint hint) about it and I would see this “short” haircut you spoke on.
I have to admit it is wonderful reading your blog and I hope you enjoy it. It is kind of like a diary that everyone can read. God bless you. Have fun.
