Hard to believe that summer is already winding down and will soon come to an end. Although we didn’t have much set in stone on our calendars at the beginning of June our weekends filled up fast, but with activities that were relaxing and left us refreshed. Family get-togethers, grilling out with friends, picnics, swimming, days at the park, baseball games, vacation at the lake.
I admit I was pretty bitter when I found out I would be on bed rest during the summer months, now going on six weeks. Fortunately, we didn’t have much more planned during the six weeks that we weren’t able to do except a camping trip, which definitely will no longer happen.
Prior to bed rest though the boys and I were busy soaking up the sun. We spent most of our days outside and being active; biking, playing ball, picnics, catching butterflies and exploring different parks. Not being able to do these things with them during the remaining month of summer was a tough pill to swallow.
On the positive side I am able to sit outside on our deck during the day while the boys play in the back yard. So I still get a taste of the sun and warm summer air. Now for sure I am hoping to be off bed rest before the weather gets too cold for I know cabin fever would set in hard.
There are still days when I feel my summer was cut short and have to fight the bitterness from creeping in and getting the best of me. I am reminded that I need to live in gratitude, which will always reap true joy. Grateful for all of the moments we enjoyed this summer and memories made together.
As a side note the boys are really looking forward to their first fall, the leaves changing colors and apple picking!

The Harvest Festival is always fun. And there are horse cart rides to and fro the apples. http://www.hillsideapples.com

Yay! I think the transition of summer to fall is my favorite. I find myself getting pretty excited about hay rides and corn mazes and camp fires. Unfortunately one thing I miss so much down here is the Apple picking. We just don’t have that down here as far as I know. I remember the awesome apple cider and apple cider donuts. Oh man! Another wonderful thing I look forward to is All Saints Day. At my church we have a vigil mass the night before and all the children dress as a saint and learn about their saint. It’s really amazing how you really can tell who the kids are. Some adults participate too. Great opportunity to learn about the saints and be inspired by them.
Praying you can get off bed rest soon! You should make a trip to FL or something when you get a chance to get your beach and Sun fun off bed rest. There are always ways to cheat and have some summer in other ways. ? Enjoy it all though.

Hope the bedrest ends soon. That would be tough. My summer officially started July 28 since i had a huge test up until then that took all my time. Summer was too short this year IMHO.

Oh no! Agreed, summer was too short especially with the lovely midwest winters we have!
