Always ready to pose for the camera, naturals!
Out of the mouth of babes comes so much honesty, humor and wit! Of course a few of my words as well as they continually pick up on new phrases.
Going for a bike ride and seeing a dog barking at us.
E: Don’t be sassy dog!
Asking Kolbe if he would perhaps like to try the bigger bike as his knees continually hit the handlebars.
K: Please wait, just a second. Please be patient buddy.
After finishing dinner.
Me: Uh, I am full.
(Kolbe proceeding to walk over and pat my stomach)
K: Big belly, big belly!
Encouraging my lead foot by acting as if we are in a race with every vehicle on the road.
K and E: Go mommy go! Faster!!
Having happened to pass while in the left lane, the back seat erupts with cheering.
K and E: Yay!!! Mommy first, mommy first!!
Mentioning that I am tired at 3:00pm in the afternoon.
K: You need to go to sleep now.
Reacting to my husband’s comment.
K: ONG!

So sweet! I think that as a parent of kids around this age this can be appreciated a lot! It will only get better! The things they say can be so funny, but also we can learn so much from what they say. We get an idea of their innocent perspective on the world. There are so many things that my daughter will say that I never even thought of. Questions she will ask that I never thought to ask. Once she offered a question revisiting a child like perspective on the holy trinity. I was explaining to her that she needs to clean her toys after playing and she says she doesn’t want to because it takes too long. So I say, she must. Why? Well, sometimes we have to do things even when we don’t want to. Jesus didn’t want to have to suffer and die on the cross, but he had to so we can all go to heaven and be with him forever. I explain that Jesus was obedient to God the Father in heaven and this is an example of how children need to be obedient to their parents. Even Jesus must obey God. And she looks at me skeptically. “Uh… How can Jesus obey God? Jesus IS God mama! What are you talking about?” I realized that she didn’t understand the difference between God the Father and God the Son, so cleaning up her room ends up being a challenging conversation about the Holy trinity. But there it is. I doubt she completely understands, especially because I don’t not completely understand. However I do not hesitate to say things like “well, I don’t know, it’s a mystery” or “maybe you/we should pray about it and God will help us understand.” I also do.my best to tell it like it is. If I have a hard time finding a way to use simple words, then I just don’t. Meaning I will go ahead and just use the big words like “trinity” and “incarnation” and (most recently due to the solemnity) “Annunciation”. I realize I grossly underestimate what they will figure out. By using the big words she actually learns and understands them.
How beautiful it is. Eat up every moment with them. We are so blessed to have the job here on Trish earth to be a mother and to raise them in the faith using every opportunity God gives us.
Enjoy every word that comes from their mouths!
